About LibreDiary & Our Mission
Building the future of digital sovereignty, one block at a time.
Our Mission
To empower individuals and organizations with a workspace that respects their data sovereignty, privacy, and freedom. We believe that your notes, documents, and ideas belong to you, not a cloud provider.
The Story
LibreDiary was born out of frustration with the increasing centralization of productivity tools. As avid users of tools like Notion, we loved the block-based editing experience but grew concerned about vendor lock-in, lack of offline support, and the uncertainty of data privacy.
We set out to build an alternative that offers the best of modern UX—real-time collaboration, rich media support, and structured databases—without compromising on the principles of local-first software and open source.
Today, LibreDiary is a community-driven project used by people who value ownership of their digital lives.
Open Source Philosophy
We are committed to building in the public. LibreDiary is released under the AGPL-3.0 license, ensuring that it remains free and open forever. We believe that essential tools for thought should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
Transparency: All code is open for modification and inspection.
Community: We prioritize features requested by our users.
Freedom: You are free to self-host, fork, and modify LibreDiary.
GNU Affero General Public License v3.0
This license ensures that LibreDiary remains free software forever. If you modify the code and run it over a network (like a website), you must share your changes with the users. This protects the project from being taken closed-source by cloud providers.
